FMLS relies heavily on its technology personnel to keep it ahead of its competition and be the preferred MLS among its customers when it comes to real estate technology tools. This role joins a high-performance team to serve in an application development role. The Software Engineer works with the Product Engineering department team to deliver the best solutions to meet and exceed the needs of both our internal customers (FMLS employees) and our external customers (our membership). This role is responsible for developing and modifying source code for software applications.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops new projects to specifications using C# Javascript T-SQL and other web-based languages
  • Reviews all code to ensure quality controls are met.
  • Takes accountability for quality technical deliverables to agreed schedule and estimates
  • Ability to convert business and technical requirements into an appropriate technical solution
  • Proactively identifies and addresses technical strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
  • Anticipates project issues during the project planning phase; works with the team to identify solutions
  • Demonstrates technical competency in designing, developing, and debugging solutions
  • Timely creation of appropriate technical design documents
  • Interpersonal communication and organizational skills required to operate as a successful team
  • Develop an understanding of IT Services: service offerings, technical standards and policies, technical and business strategies
  • Manages recurring dynamic technical tasks
  • Identifies and resolves underlying causes for issues reported by users
  • Streamlines and redesigns inefficient code
  • Evaluates new code for potential exploits or weaknesses
  • Ensure that all completed code is as strong and secure as possible
  • Researches and learns technology in areas suggested
  • Provides accurate estimates for proposed projects
  • Delivers tasks by or before agreed upon due-dates
  • Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential application of service offerings and products provided by IT
  • Lends expertise to internal IT teams and task forces as well as other IT projects/programs
  • Maintains effective and consistent communication within the team, with peers and leaders across own and other teams.
  • Ability to challenge constructively and ensure that the broader IT and firm strategy is taken into consideration when designing and developing solutions
  • Participates in overall department meetings
  • Contributes when necessary on new project planning
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • A minimum of 3-4 years experience in developing & delivering solutions within a web-based environment
  • Sound analytical skills and problem-solving skills needed to manage multiple technical challenges simultaneously
  • Has strong working knowledge of web services and underlying technologies
  • Has strong working knowledge of programming concepts and best practices
  • Has a strong sense of ownership and personal pride in any work performed
  • Has excellent written and verbal business communication skills
  • Has a strong willingness to learn, and a thirst for knowledge
  • Can be available on nights or weekends to perform (planned) scheduled maintenance
  • Can be available for after-hours network monitoring (“on-call”) as needed
  • Is self-motivated, well disciplined, well organized, and able to multitask
  • Is able to produce in a high-energy team environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Math, or Engineering
  • 1 – 3 years of experience using a C#
  • Basic knowledge of T-SQL
  • Advanced JavaScript skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Object-Oriented programming
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical documentation
  • Experience with source code management applications
  • The environment is usually normal office working conditions; the noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate. (working from home during Public Health Emergency)
  • This position may be required to be “on-call”, and respond to emergencies outside of normal business hours on occasion.
  • This position may be required to perform maintenance outside of normal business hours on occasion.
  • This position is considered to be sedentary, and no unusual physical requirements are necessary to perform daily tasks.
  • This position requires the ability to sit in an office or home office setting viewing a computer monitor for most of the day with heavy key stroking and data entry.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Math, or Engineering
  • 1 – 3 years of experience using a C#
  • Basic knowledge of T-SQL
  • Advanced JavaScript skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Object-Oriented programming
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical documentation
  • Experience with source code management applications

This position is considered full time exempt FSLA status.
